Staying well hydrated during pregnancy: a key ally for good foetal health

Overview

Hydration and good health: bottled water or tap water?

The EFSA recommends that pregnant women drink 300 ml more water per day, i.e., a total of 2 litres every day. The INPES has produced a booklet containing recommendations for pregnant women, which highlights the importance of staying well hydrated. So it is essential to choose the water you drink carefully, to best support you through your pregnancy. It is absolutely fine to drink tap water since it is generally safe and healthy. However, avoid it if its nitrate content is too high. Tap water should also be avoided in you live in an old building with lead pipes. When it comes to bottled waters, pregnant women should favour still water with a low mineral content, such as Mont Roucous. It also has a light taste and is not very acidic.  It is the ideal water to drink during pregnancy. It promotes digestive absorption and limits stomach acidity. It is important to be careful about how your tap or bottled water is stored. Tap water should not be kept for more than 24 hours in the fridge or left to stand for more than 3 or 4 hours open to the air. Once a bottle of mineral water has been opened, store it in a cool place, with the cap on. This minimises any contaminants that could potentially harm your baby. dangereux pour son fœtus.

Zero tolerance for alcohol during pregnancy

Alcohol is harmful to pregnant women and for the development of the foetus in a number of ways. The first risk is miscarriage or premature delivery of the baby. Delayed growth of the infant and psychological and behavioural problems are also promoted by alcohol, even in small amounts. The babies of mothers who drink alcohol during their pregnancy can develop foetal alcohol syndrome. During pregnancy, the foetus is exposed to external risks that can lead to the development of malformations and diseases. Prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) is one of the major risks to the unborn child. So to enable your unborn child to benefit from the best immune system in the long term, good hydration and a balanced diet are essential. But whatever the case, try not to worry as everything generally goes smoothly.
